Services provided by Balzhiser & Hubbard Engineers:
Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering

BHE provided mechanical, electrical and civil engineering services for this 140,000 square foot new construction and renovation project incorporating sustainable design. Mechanical systems include campus steam and chilled water modifications, VAV reheat systems, constant volume heating and ventilating systems, smoke control systems, heat recovery systems, natural and mixed-mode ventilation, perimeter radiation systems (fin-tube and radiant floors), domestic water systems, and fire sprinkler systems. Electrical services included re-design of the primary distribution and emergency electrical systems; fire alarm and telecommunications systems for the complex; and electrical engineering designed to accommodate the complex's photovoltaic system. The facility was designed to meet SEED guidelines and was awarded LEED Silver certification. The facility is predicted to consume 40% less energy than a conventional building. The building orientation, building mass, floor configurations, and room arrangements minimize solar loads and maximize potential for natural and mixed-mode ventilation systems. The building includes photovoltaic panels on the roof as well as in the building's glass facade, for which BHE provided electrical design.
