Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway is a new, four-lane arterial developed by the City of Springfield and Lane County in support of the relocation of a major
hospital/medical center campus. A median strip in the Parkway will accommodate a future Bus Rapid Transit route connecting downtown Springfield to the new
medical/commercial district in northwest Springfield. Numerous phased street and utility infrastructure projects were assigned to the City, the County and
the hospital development teams to establish the infrastructure in support of the development.
Balzhiser & Hubbard Engineers was retained by the City of Springfield to survey, design, administer and construct 4,500 linear feet of trunk sanitary
sewer in the new Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway right-of-way, including 500 linear feet of directional bore for a 24 inch sewer main. BHE also managed
the construction contract for the storm sewer, which was designed by another firm. Our Lighting Department provided design services for parkway lighting
in association with the road improvements designed by Lane County under a separate project.
