PeaceHealth elected to use a design-build delivery system for this facility. The successful team included Hyland Construction, TBG Architects & Planners,
and Balzhiser & Hubbard Engineers for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
This facility includes a 20,000 square foot hospital and 20,000 square feet of clinic space. The hospital, which opened in the fall of 2003, has a
capacity of 15 beds and houses an emergency department, lab, radiology services and doctors offices, all in the same facility. There were a number of
a-typical issues related to the development of the hospital site. The selected site was located within a floodplain, and PeaceHealth eventually decided
to set the building above the 500-year flood elevation, though they weren't required to do so by code. This resulted in a great amount of fill and
required a unique approach to site grading to match the existing grades at the site perimeter. Another major issue was the lack of a public system into
which site stormwater could drain. Ultimately, our civil engineering department was able to design a system consisting of infiltration basins so no runoff
was directed off site.
